Inside the Drawing Process:
from materials to atmosphere
This five-week drawing course is designed for students of all experience levels and focuses on developing a strong foundation in landscape drawing. We will cover essential fundamentals including perspective, composition, and value, with an emphasis on creating atmosphere and depth. Alongside these fundamentals, I will demonstrate my own non-traditional use of graphite and charcoal—building smooth, tonal layers beneath more expressive and defining mark-making—and discuss how material choices support mood and structure in a drawing.
The first class will be split between an overview of materials—allowing students time to experiment and become familiar with the tools—and a live demonstration using those supplies. Over the remaining four weeks, we will work through a landscape drawing together step by step. Each session will include demonstration, guided practice, and discussion, with students following along as the drawing develops over time.
